The Keystone Equipment and Toy Company originated in Boston, MA in 1910. The company began making movie cameras and projectors ten years later. In the 1930s it released easy to use color movie cameras and its iconic R8 projector.
Each frame was held momentarily and then flipped at 16 frames per second. It could hold the 7-inch reels providing about 30 minutes of film. The R8 was heavy duty, made out of cast iron weighing 28 pounds. At less than $100, many middle-class families invested in Keystone and created home movies in mass.
